CHRISTOPHER ANDREWS ARCHITECT & TOWN PLANNER

VINEYARD HAVEN RESIDENCE, MASSACHUSETTS

This guest house was designed and built in Martha’s Vineyard in 1987.  The plan includes a tower lookout with a panoramic view of the harbor and bay that serves as a writing studio for the owner.  A special effort was made to preserve the site’s existing vegetation on this restricted site and harmonize with the shingle style context.  The scheme for the house utilizes the pattern "Long Thin House" from A Pattern Language, and was also inspired by a neighboring windmill.
