NISMIME

THE NAUTICAL INSTITUTE ON THE EFFECT OF MAN'S INPUT ON THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT

NISMIME is a design for an oceanographic research vessel intended to monitor the changes caused by man in the biological, chemical, physical and meteorological processes of the worlds oceans.  There is an increasing necessity for extensive, long range research in this area, as it is the deep ocean on which we may ultimately depend for survival.  Although we are rarely in contact with it, it directly affects the quality of our coastal regions and even the air we breathe.  Christopher worked on this project in 1979 with Charles Vinai, and they won the second place award in the Woodenboat magazine competition for a self sufficient oceangoing community.
