CHRISTOPHER ANDREWS ARCHITECT & TOWN PLANNER

MEDITATION COTTAGE, LOS ANGELES CA

The clients expressed a desire for a quiet sanctuary removed from the activity of the main house.  In addition to the front porch there are two small writing studios, a domed common work room, and a small meditation chamber.  The cottage forms a center in the simply landscaped garden.  The cottage was designed by Christopher Andrews in 1994 so it could be built by the owners themselves.  The walls are straw bale with a concrete frame.  The dome is reinforced concrete without any formwork.
