COMPUTER MODELS

Calistoga Residence Preliminary Loggia Study

Calistoga Residence Upper Terrace Study

With the Calistoga residence we also used computer-generated models to study the relationship of the exterior loggia to the site and buildings. We wanted to get a sense of what it might feel like to be under the loggia. Using the computer we are able to generate accurate shadow studies. This was very useful in a way we had not expected. Through these studies we began to see that the loggia was too massive and heavy for the building and the site. We reduced it significantly in size and extended the lighter wood trellis.

With these computer models we also made some preliminary studies of the exterior finish colors for the metal roof and the plaster walls. We were required to submit this for design review with the city of Calistoga. Of course, the final material selections will be made on site during construction.
